WAR AND PEACE Volumes One and Two are scheduled for binding and shipment out to subscribers in mid-September. We appear to be on track, as indicated by the successful stamp test for both volumes.
This is a very big book; combined, the two volumes come to 1,592 pages. At 776 pages, Volume One is the smaller of the two, but as you can see from the spine width, it is still a very substantial book!
The cowhide is a deep, rich brown, while the goatskin edition is a similarly deep blue. These are just stamp tests, so the hubs have not yet been created.
The cover designs for Volumes One and Two are identical, with the exception of the volume name on the covers and spines. They will make for a spectacular set; we went for a more overtly Franklin Library-style geometric design, albeit with the cannon on the spine to tie it together with the thematic style which we usually utilize. It’s always good to see that the edges on the stamping are very clean and crisp.
Volume Two has also passed the stamp test.
We have 88 of both volumes from the print run currently unspoken for, so if you are a Tolstoy fan who has not yet subscribed to Castalia Library, you can ensure yourself a copy by ordering one from the Arkhaven store:
And in very different, but tangentially-related news, the Castalia Library sideboard at Meadowbank Stadium has been installed just to the right of the goal in front of the home stands and it looks great. We’re told a number of people were commenting on what a beautiful signboard it is, as, of course, befits the producer of “The World’s Most Beautiful Books”. The first sign was installed in time for the first home game on Saturday, and the second one will be installed before the second home game on Tuesday.
The lead time from announcement to press is certainly tightening up from 18-30 months to under 12 months. A considerable accomplishment in the midst of overhauling the operations.
Now THIS will impress Japanese companies looking to collaborate!
