One of the final steps before a book is bound is the test stamping. This is our last chance to be certain everything is correct with the brass stamp and check that the various cover elements line up correctly. A book cover, or “case”, is created, then a single stamp is made for our approval before the entire print run is stamped, the interiors are inserted into the leather cases, and the books are bound.
Above is the test stamp for the CAMBRIDGE MEDIEVAL HISTORY Volume II: The Twelfth Century to the Renaissance, which is the third book in the Castalia History series. It is a limited edition of 500, and like its predecessor, it is already sold out.
The stamp for the second book appears to be excellent and both the leather and the stamping match the first book’s test stamp well.
So, this stamp has been approved, and we have been informed that the both volumes are scheduled to be bound today, boxed next week, and sent to our shipping center on February 16th. If everything proceeds smoothly, there is a good chance that subscribers will start receiving both books, shipped together, before the end of the month.
The current History subscription book is Book 4, Studies in the Napoleonic Wars by Sir Charles Oman, which is being serialized on this stack. A modest number of copies still remain available.
