After some delays caused by machine breakdowns, power outages, and severe flooding at the US bindery, we’re relieved to finally be able to announce that WAR AND PEACE Volumes One and Two are bound, boxed, and ready for shipment to the warehouse. We can also announce that the Libraria editions are sold out; if we happen to receive a couple extra sets, as occasionally happens, we will make them available at a later date.
Fortunately, there are still copies of the Library editions available. These are very big books; combined, the two volumes come to 1,592 pages, 336 more than the Franklin Library edition published in 1981 as part of the 100 Greatest Books of All Time series.
For the cover, we went with a more abstract Franklin Library style approach than usual. However, we did retain a symbolic element with the period-appropriate cannons on the top of the spines.
This is arguably one of the most, if not the most, attractive editions of WAR AND PEACE ever published. The Franklin Library edition, which is printed in smaller type on thinner paper, and requires a cardboard insert to support the weight of its 1,256 pages, really doesn’t hold a candle to Castalia’s two-volume set.
Another look at the Libraria set. The people at the bindery told us that they were among the most beautiful books they’d ever produced there.
The Libraria editions are sold out, but we have 80 of both Library editions from the print run currently unspoken for, so if you are a Tolstoy fan who has not yet subscribed to Castalia Library, you can ensure yourself a copy by ordering one from the Arkhaven store:
And in other leather book news, yesterday we announced that two addons have been added to the Hypergamouse campaign. So in addition to a leatherbound Hypergamouse collection, we have made a signed first edition of SIGMA GAME bound in cowhide with a limited run of 250 and a signed first letter edition bound in goatskin with a limited run of 26 available to the backers. These books will not be part of the Library or Libraria subscription, but they may be interested to book collectors and they will be produced to similarly high standards and will include custom illustrations drawn specifically for these editions by Lacey Fairchild.
Wow! These are absolutely gorgeous works of art. This is an impressive achievement and a perfect example of how Castalia House is quite literally preserving Western Civilization.
It makes me very excited to receive the Castalia History books, too. When one thinks about it, the yearly subscription price is a real value. I'm proud to be associated with such wonderful people, SDL, Marrku, the Ilk, Dread Ilk, Bears & of course the VFM in fighting the Good Fight in this crucial Culture War. Thank you, Vox. Gratitude, Sir.
Limited series request: Susan Cooper The Dark is Rising series. I was looking for leather bound editions and saw Easton did one. 1K+ on eBay right now. I would rather give the money to Castalia for better quality. I got time to wait, my kids are still young. I hope you guys can get the rights.
